Recbrief Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 27, 2026. Developer: David Escobar, publishing on the Microsoft Store as “David E”.
For now, the program and its folders are still named ScreenRec, for example %AppData%\ScreenRec and Videos\ScreenRec.
In short: Recbrief records on your PC and keeps everything on your PC. The app does not send recordings, audio, settings, or logs to any server. It has no accounts, ads, analytics, or telemetry.
1. What data the app handles and where it stays
- Recordings: MP4 files with video of the window or screen you choose and audio from your microphone and your PC. They are saved in the folder you choose, by default
Videos\ScreenRec. - Recovery file: while you record, a small
.session.jsonfile sits next to the video. It contains only the video's path, is deleted when you stop, and lets the app recover a recording after an unexpected shutdown. - Settings: a
settings.jsonfile in%AppData%\ScreenRec. In the Microsoft Store version, Windows keeps it in a private app folder. It stores your save folder, your chosen audio devices, quality, frame rate, language, whether you have seen the recording notice, and the last source you used (program name and window title, or the screen). - Diagnostic log: a
screenrec.logfile in your recordings folder. It holds timestamps, errors, the title of the recorded window or screen, audio device names, and file paths. It is used to troubleshoot problems, it is never sent, and you can delete it at any time.
2. Permissions
- Microphone: used only while you record. You can turn it off in Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. If it is off, that part of the recording is silent.
- System audio: while you record, the app captures what plays on the headphones or speakers you choose, including other people's voices in a call.
- Screen or window: the app captures only the source you choose and only while you record. Windows draws a yellow border around it. The app's own window is left out of the recording.
3. Internet connections
The app does not connect to the internet. Updates are delivered by the Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Store and Windows may collect data under Microsoft's privacy policy, which we do not control.
4. Recording other people
Recording other people may require their consent, depending on local law. Telling them and asking for permission is the responsibility of the person recording. The app shows this notice before your first recording, and you can open it again from Privacy.
5. Sharing, retention, and deletion
We do not receive your data, so we do not share or sell it. Your files stay on your PC until you delete them. If you share a recording, that is up to you. Uninstalling the Microsoft Store version removes the settings but not your recordings or the log, which you can delete from your recordings folder.
6. This website and the Pro AI waitlist
This section covers recbrief.app, not the app. The website has no accounts, ads, analytics, or trackers.
- Waitlist form: if you join the Recbrief Pro AI waitlist, the form that collects your email address is provided by Tally BV (Belgium), which stores form data in the European Union. We ask only for your email address and use it only to tell you about Recbrief Pro AI. Tally processes it on our behalf under its own privacy policy.
- Email: if you join by email or write to us, we receive your message and email address and use them only to reply or to add you to the waitlist.
- You can ask us to remove your email address from the waitlist at any time by writing to [email protected].
7. Changes to this policy
We plan a Pro version with AI features such as transcripts and summaries. If any feature sends audio or text to an outside service, we will update this policy before it ships to explain what is sent, to whom, why, and for how long. These features will be optional and used only if you turn them on. Any change will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
